GAELIC FOOTBALL.... WESTERN AUSTRALIA
HOME

The GAA of Western Australia is pleased to announce that in 2008 we have moved to our new state of the art facility at BGC Ground, Tom Bateman Reserve, in the southern metro suburb of Canning Vale.

The 2008 summer saw a great deal of Gaelic football activity in Western Australia. The summer Women's football competition that proved so successful in 2007 continued to grow local interest, and for the Men we commenced a series of coaching clinics and training sessions to introduce new players to the game. In addition to providing an outlet for those who get GAA withdrawals during the typical off season we attracted a number of AFL, soccer and rugby players interested in obtaining pre-season fitness and trying something 'new'. Many of these have indicated that they will pursue this interest during the winter league.

Participation, newspaper and radio coverage have assisted in raising awareness that Gaelic Football exists within WA and is a sport set for growth into the future. In coming years we hope to expand this summer series into a competition that will include senior and minor competitions as well as the existing women's competition.

Gaelic Football is alive during the winter months in Perth with six competitive clubs being represented across the Mens and Ladies Football League including Coastal Breaker GFC, Greenwood GFC, Morley GFC, Southern Districts GFC, Shamrocks GFC, St Finbarrs GFC. Games are played at BGC Ground, Tom Bateman Reserve, Canning Vale  every Sunday between 10.00am – 5.00pm.

The return of men's Hurling exhibition matches in WA has drawn much interest by all involved in the GAA of WA. There is a solid group of men training hard and showing their skills off at monthly matches during the football season.

Western Australian Minors and Womens Gaelic Football Teams have been consistent and solid performers in the Australasian Championships in the last few years. Having managed the three-peat in 2007 our womens team is aiming towards a fourth straight win in Adelaide this year.

The Youth Development Team continue to offer 'Gael Kick' sport days to the youngsters in Perth and with support from the GAA of WA and Club members they hope to develop many of these children into champions in the near future.

New players and volunteers are always welcome, check out our Web Site: www.gaawa.org.au to see how you can become a part of Gaelic Football in Western Australia.
