GAELIC FOOTBALL.... NEW SOUTH WALES
HOME

Gaelic games are well and truly alive in Australia’s premier State – NSW.

2006 has seen the development of Camogie in the State in addition to the strong Men’s and Women’s football and hurling competitions already played in Sydney. Irish ex-pats and Irish backpackers dominate the hurling and men’s football whilst the women’s football has seen a growth in the number of non-Irish participating in the sport. The girls have also been keen to tog out in Camogie with 5 clubs competing in the 7-a-side competitions held this year.

There are currently 10 GAA clubs in Sydney. These clubs are spread out over the city so no matter where you are living; there will be a club close to you. For more information check out the Club Profiles on the NSW website: www.gaansw.org.au

The season starts with a summer comp in February and March (women’s and men’s football only). This is followed by a one-day tournament on the Central Coast in March for all 4 codes. The league competition runs from April to June with the season closing with a championship competition which runs from July to September.

The Australasian championships take place in October. NSW have been the most successful State in the Australasian championships to date and are the current Champions in the Men’s Football Competition. They are once again eagerly looking forward to this year’s championships. NSW Hurling has also been strongly represented at State Games providing more than one team on many occasions to promote the game across Australasia.

Gaelic games in NSW take place on Sundays at Princes Park, Auburn.
